A Rainy Sunday Coming Down

The monsoon has arrived in Tampa earlier than usual this year, and speaking strictly for me, I am getting more than a little soggy. Yes, it is soggy here in SOG City. Cabin fever is setting in and I have to go to the Googles from time to time to remind myself what sunshine looks like.

This past Sunday my bride and I pondered what to do for entertainment, outside of the ranchero. This discussion brought back memories of a trip some years ago to Key West. We had an action packed day planned, but a couple of blocks from the hotel the sky opened up and the rain came down in buckets.

We ducked under the portico of one of the many classical structures to be found along Duval Street. Well, alright then, it was Sloppy Joe's, where the more you drink, the more classical it becomes. Anyhoo, while discussing our next move we heard the band inside finish a tune and a voice from the stage hollered out, "It's Sunday morning and welcome to the tabernacle...let's drink!"

The Belle of Ballast Point and I exchanged glaces and decided that was a dandy idea, so in we went to enjoy the rest of the morning downing a bunch of rummy thingies while the band played on.

That experience formed the basis of our modus operandi for rainy Sundays: head for the tabernacle, and have a drink.

The tabernacle this past Sunday was the CineBistro in Hyde Park. We simply adore this movie venue. They serve up some pretty spectacular grub and adult beverages, cell phones and assholes are not allowed, the under 18 crowd is not allowed, the seats are super comfortable, and there is room to stretch out.

The movie, The Heat, was a hoot! Melissa McCarthy was hilarious. Sandra Bullock's character in Miss Congeniality, a nerdy FBI agent, appeared to have been revived for this movie, but Bullock is so charming and talented that this "typecasting" was easily overlooked.

The Heat is just laugh out loud funny. It is not particularly cerebral, but it's a rainy Sunday and we had a bucket of beer. Who cares that the sun ain't a-shining?

The food was yum-a-mundo! "BBQ Beef Rib Sliders - Tender Slow-Cooked Beef Short Rib Tossed with Our Cherry Coke BBQ Sauce. Served with Sesame Slaw and House-Fried Potato Chips" for my bride.

For me, "Yellowfin Tuna Tacos - Lightly Marinated Ahi Tuna in Crisp Tortillas with Chunky Guacamole, Citrus Mayo and Jicama Slaw."

It was too dark in the auditorium for pictures without flash [see above: assholes are not allowed], so you will just have to use your imagination. Either that, or go to the CineBistro and taste for yourself.

We highly recommend the CineBistro and The Heat - good and funny all in the same day.

Go see that movie if you don't want Special Agent Ashburn or Detective Mullins shootin' you in the dick. It could happen, ya know.
